One day in May 2003 as I was driving home after a long day of work, when I heard a gloomy report on NPR about Malaria in Sub-Sahara Africa. Of course the report talked about the large number of people dying of Malaria --- which was nothing new to me. What gave me a chill was that the reporter said that all the known cures are no longer effective because the virus has mutated. That was the time when I usually send money home to my neighborhood youth soccer team which I sponsor. I started thinking about them and malaria. Maybe I need to send in addition to the money I usually send the price for twenty two doses of medicine. But what medicine should I buy? I then started my research, reading all about malaria from the World Health Organization webpage which advocated combination drugs? I finally decided to buy Artemesinin? I kept on thinking over this malaria problem, and it was as if I was seeing in front of me all the people in my hometown dying one after the other. I decided then to do something about.
